It was June 5th, 2021. Since 1974, we have celebrated World Environment Day every year on June 5th. Environment is what bears us, sustains us; nourishes and develops us. If we don’t stop exploiting her right away, we might not get a second chance.

What to do? Make new rules and regulations! Impose stringent penalties like heftier fines and longer years of imprisonment!

We have been doing these for years with little results. The challenge is to stir up spontaneity among people, something like the movements- The Living Martyrs– are doing.

The Living Martyrs Movement

Only a true patriot can say something as did Capt. Vikram Batra, the Kargil War braveheart who laid down his life and was posthumously awarded with the Param Veer Chakra, the highest gallantry award in India.

We lost 527 of our bravest sons in the bloody battle fought for 60 days in one of the harshest terrains of the world.

The Living Martyrs movement is commemorating the memories of martyrs in a unique way. People from all walks of life can volunteer in this movement. They can plant trees in the memory of martyrs and immortalise them in an eco-friendly way.

The Living Martyrs movement is a dream CSR project of a passionate environmentalist and eco-entrepreneur with whom KiddyPi jointly held the World Environment Day event on 5th May.

The Free and Unique Online Workshop

At KiddyPi, we always strive to touch the lives of children and teenagers with the right education, thoughts and actions. This year on June 5th, we had the honour of collaborating with Astu Eco Pvt Ltd, headed by Smt. Anitha Shankar ji, Founder and MD of the company. Anitha ji is also a conservationist. Actions and not tall promises define her.

The Living Martyrs movement is the brainchild of Anitha Shankar ji.

The online fun and learning event was jointly held by KiddyPi and Astu Eco. It saw a huge footfall, cheering and responding to the Q-A rounds held by Anitha ji and the hosts, Sandeep Srinivas and Sunandini Chaudhary. Around 40+ participants from a varied age group of 8 years to 18 years, enrolled in the event.

Parents of the participants, particularly of the younger children also joined the event.

It was a proud moment for us, when the special children of ALFAA (Assisted Living for Autistic Adults) joined our event. We got extra motivation to carry forward the good work.

Children from another special educational institution, Snehalaya, participated in our event. Their wholehearted participation boosted our morale, further.

VR Show – Plant A Tree, Plant A Hope

Children were super excited when we told them that we were going to plant trees together. However, they knew that in the new normal, going outside is not safe at all. So we held it in the virtual world.

Plant A Tree, Plant A Hope was a super exciting VR game show where children could virtually take part into the entire process of planting trees. They could feel and visualise the importance of an arboretum for an adjacent city with a very few trees.

The leaderboard feature sparked the spirit of competition among participants.

The boards that were kept beside the trees were full of information on those particular trees.

As goes the famous quote of Raph Koster (an eminent game designer and American entrepreneur), “Fun is just another name for learning.”

The Relevance of World Environment Day

The event began with a friendly ppt-based discussion on the importance of World Environment Day. From the necessity of sustenance to the burning issues of the environment, children responded to every query with full enthusiasm.

The A/V round of discussion ended with an informative video show.

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words

Some of the young talents drew impactful posters, expressing their innocence and wisdom in one go.

Fun Learning in A Round of Quiz

Healthy competition is always beneficial. We set up a quiz round for children with simple questions related to conservation of wildlife, pollution, global warming, deforestation and eco friendly movements.

A Creative Wind-up

The event ended with a video description writing contest. Children summarised the missions of The Living Martyrs movement and shared their thoughts on the same.

By now, many of you must be willing to join our upcoming events and be a part of the excitement!!
